Various web links I found to be of interest recently.
An account that grows will do so from two primary sources:
the individual saves more and the market rises. There are simply too many
scientific studies to show that money managers have nothing to do with it.
But they get paid more, as if they are the reason you have more money.
...
Consider that $1,000 invested in stocks to earn 8% for 40 years will
lose almost a third due to fees. They never seem like much, because you
don't get a bill. The money is sliced off before you get your statement.
...
And why not a fixed fee? Virtually every personal service involves
either an hourly fee with an understanding of the approximate number
of hours or a flat fee. Monitoring your money does not require continuous
oversight, and most of the work is automated.
Are large language models (LLMs) helping or hurting research integrity? As their capabilities expand, the risks associated with their use in research become increasingly apparent. Rather than viewing LLMs as impartial or reliable tools, researchers must critically evaluate whether their use is appropriate. We argue that the inherent biases, variability, and susceptibility to manipulation make LLMs unsuitable for most data analysis tasks. This opinion parallels the risks of "prompt-hacking" to the practice of "p-hacking." P-hacking is one of the most severe and widely recognized practices adversely affecting scientific integrity today. It provides a strong reference and foundation to stress the risks associated with questionable LLM practices and prompt-hacking within all computing disciplines and beyond. This serves as a basis for elaborating on whether we should trust LLMs as impartial data analysts. We say no and urge stricter usage standards when using LLM-based data analysis.
the job market is fine. you are not.
so what makes you hireable
if it is not the brand of the college, what is it?
you have to show you can add value. that is it. that is the only thing.
the test the smart hiring manager applies in 2026 is simple. can you learn something on your own? can you finish what you started? can you do what you said you would do? these were always the skills that mattered. the difference is they are now the ONLY skills that matter, because the credential stopped doing the screening.
Dance, like other exercise, can help people lose weight, get stronger, reduce fall risk, increase mobility and flexibility, and even improve brain health. It engages their brain, it changes their mood, and it connects them socially while getting them moving," said Loya. "And it''s fun. Everybody has a good time."
Galston also leaves out the personal tradeoffs that are too often unsung in homeownership. In his case he's an economist, he used earnings from his profession to get into housing, but if Galston is like most of us, in purchasing a house he took over the expensive management of something about which he knew very little. It raises a basic question about how much personal time did Galston lose after buying something he likely didn't understand, and how much did this lack of understanding cost him in paying once again for home maintenance?
Most of all, the economist in Galston glossed over an obvious economic tradeoff that arguably should have mugged him. While he lamented the rise of an upper middle class that has allegedly priced the typical would-be homeowner out of the housing market over the past 50 years, he forgot to mention that the stock market over the same timeframe rose over fiftyfold. Galston might agree that the two are in some ways related.

Mr. Carlson's worldview hasn't fundamentally changed. Like other prominent figures on the anti-Israel right, he still sees the West as menaced by alien civilizations bent on its destruction. He has just turned his attention to what he sees as the alien civilization that populates the Jewish state. And he's done so with the same penchant for conspiracy theories that has long marked his public commentary. Now he is using a destructive, ill-defined and unpopular war to give those theories even greater reach.`
